Welcome to the Team: Dr. David Lederer Joins Bellevue Westmount

Our Westmount team is proud to welcome Dr. David Lederer, a highly distinguished ophthalmologist and medical retina specialist. The addition of his extensive expertise allows us to further enhance the quality of our services and the specialization of our retinal care offerings.

Dr. David E. Lederer began his academic journey with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Pennsylvania State University, followed by medical training at the Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston. During his medical studies, he was actively involved in early research on Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), contributing to clinical applications and protocols that remain in use today.

He completed his residency in ophthalmology at McGill University, where his research productivity and leadership were recognized with the department’s Resident Leadership Award.

Dr. Lederer pursued subspecialty training in medical retina at Duke University in North Carolina—a world-renowned vision center. There, he continued to focus on both clinical care and research regarding advanced retinal diseases.

Professionally, Dr. Lederer is an affiliate member of the Department of Ophthalmology at McGill University. His leadership roles have included:

• Serving as McGill’s first Director of Tele-ophthalmology.
• Serving as Director of Grand Rounds.
• Continuing membership on the department’s Quality Improvement Committee.

As an active clinician-researcher, Dr. Lederer has been published in Retina, Ophthalmology, and the Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology, and serves as a reviewer for several medical journals. His academic work focuses on multimodal retinal imaging and its role in patient care. He is also a long-standing educator for ophthalmologists and optometrists through his online teaching platform, EyeCarePD.

Joining the Bellevue Network

After more than 16 years of serving the Montreal community, Dr. Lederer has joined the Bellevue Network, where he now sees his patients. His clinical practice is based within Bellevue clinics, and all consultation or follow-up requests are coordinated exclusively through the Bellevue network.
