The LipiFlow® treatment is offered by our specialized optometrists for the treatment of dry eyes.

What many people with dry eyes don't usually realize, is that it is often caused by Meibomian gland dysfunction. When the tiny Meibomian glands located in the eyelids stop working, they are unable to protect the tear film, a thin layer of fluid that covers the exterior surface of the eye.

The LipiFlow® is a revolutionnary thermal pulsation system that uses a device to heat up and massage away the blockage in just 12 minutes.

How Does the LipiFlow® Treatment Work?

  • The procedure is centered around the technological breakthrough Vector Thermal Pulse Technology™ (VTP).

  • After the initial use of an anesthetic drop, no medication is required for the procedure.

  • The LipiFlow® system safely delivers therapeutic energy to the Meibomian glands while protecting the delicate structures of the patient's eye.

  • As a result, the obstructed meibum is liquefied and pushed upward and out of the gland's openings.

The Science Behind LipiFlow®

VECTORED

A vaulted design protects the cornea while multi-point sensors monitor and regulate heat and pressure throughout the treatment. This maximizes results and minimizes discomfort. Along with force equalization, the eye is protected from heat and pressure while a nominal therapeutic temperature of 42.5 degrees Celsius is applied directly to the inner eyelid where the glands are located, while protecting the eyelid or delicate structures of the globe.

THERMAL

The patented heating technology ensures precise temperature regulation with continuous feedback and consistent application of heat on the Meibomian glands. The insulated and contoured design of the activator protects the cornea from dangerous temperatures.

PULSED

The intelligent pressure feedback loop sends pulsed sequences to eliminate blockages and stagnant materials from the glands. The customized pressure sequence optimizes gland cleaning while the device's design protects the eye from unnecessary intraocular pressures.
