Dr. Karin Oliver

Dr. Karin Oliver brings more than sixteen years of experience in complex ocular care to the Bellevue Clinic. Her primary focus is the medical and laser management of glaucoma, complemented by a general ophthalmology practice that includes the ongoing follow-up of basic medical retina conditions. Her patients describe a thoughtful, attentive physician who takes the time to listen, explain things clearly, and tailor every treatment plan to the person in front of her.

Dr. Oliver earned a Bachelor of Science with distinction from Queen’s University, followed by her medical degree with honors from the University of Toronto. She completed her ophthalmology residency at McGill University and, following this, a fellowship in Ocular Inflammatory Diseases at the University of Montreal. She has served as a Faculty Lecturer in McGill’s Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences for over sixteen years, a period during which she managed patients with exceptionally complex, multi-subspecialty ocular conditions at the McGill University Health Centre — an experience that sharpened the clinical acuity and depth of medical expertise she now brings to the management of glaucoma.

An extremely dedicated educator throughout her time at the McGill University Health Centre, Dr. Oliver has mentored and trained generations of medical students, residents, and fellows. In 2021 she was named the department’s Best Clinical Teacher, and over her years on faculty she has chaired McGill’s Morbidity and Mortality, Quality Improvement, and Faculty Development committees, and serves on its Residency Competency Committee. She has lectured and presented her work at national and international ophthalmology meetings, and has served as a peer reviewer for the Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology.

A Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, Dr. Oliver is also a member of the Collège des médecins du Québec, the Fédération des médecins spécialistes du Québec, and the Association des ophtalmologistes du Québec. Outside the clinic, she serves as a medical advisor on the Board of the Whitearn Foundation.
