LipiFlow®️ Treatment: An Efficient Solution for Dry Eyes
Dry eye is one of those eye conditions that can become serious irritants. In some people, this condition can even interfere with the execution of normal daily tasks. Thus, patients with dry eyes are often looking for a treatment to get over it quickly.
LipiFlow®️ and the Meibomian glands
Have you ever heard of the LipiFlow®️ treatment? Perhaps you saw it in our recently released video on the subject or browsed our website looking for our treatments for dry eyes?
Anyway, for those who do not already know, LipiFlow®️ is a revolutionary treatment offered by the optometrists of the Bellevue Clinic which consisits in unblocking the meibomian glands. These small glands located in the epidermis of the eyelid secrete Meibum, a substance (an oil) responsible for lubricating the outer surface of the eye, also called the tear film. When this oil gets thicker than normal, it clogs the glands, preventing them from releasing the oil and causing dry eyes. Blockage of the meibomian glands is one of the main causes of this pathology and yet it remains unknown to the population.
LipiFlow®️ treatment uses thermal pulsation technology that heats up and clears these blockages in just 12 minutes. This is a painless procedure and performed under local anesthesia (eye drops).
